Karis taught school in Waterloo, Guelph and Galt, has owned a couple of small businesses, and spent 15 years as regional supervisor in retail fashion. She was instrumental in the production of a “Fifty-plus and Fabulous” calendar that raised $26,000 for HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre and in the production of “The Vagina Monologues” that raised $13,000 for local women’s shelters. After walking the El Camino de Santiago de Compostella in 2007 Karis presented talks to explain the Power of Pilgrimage. Concepts of mythology, culture and social evolution have always fascinated her. She has been a member of Interfaith Grand River since 2001, is a cofounder of The Sacred Secular Sanctuary and Past-President of the Society of Freethinkers (SOFREE). In 2015, she published a book about the evolution of modern Western culture. Book talks and book-signing events are ongoing. In her current business, “Imagine Ceremonies”, she conducts weddings and other celebrations as a Humanist Officiant.
